Top 5 Back-Building Exercises by Massimo Massaro BSc FRCms

A well-developed back gives a wider look and improves strength and posture. Because the back has several muscle groups, it needs a varied set of exercises.
1. Deadlift
- Feet hip-width, bar over mid-foot.
- Hinge at hips and knees to grip the bar.
- Chest up, shoulders back, eyes forward.
- Stand by driving through hips and knees.
2. Pull-ups
- Hang with palms facing away.
- Brace and pull until your chin clears the bar.
- Lower under control.
3. Bent-over rows
- Feet shoulder-width, barbell or two dumbbells.
- Hinge at the waist with a straight back.
- Pull to your chest, lower under control.
4. T-bar row
- Straddle the bar and grip the handle.
- Soft knees, hinge at the hip.
- Pull to your chest and squeeze your back.
5. Seated cable row
- Feet on the platform, grip the handle.
- Pull to your waist with a straight back.
- Return under control.
Pair these with a balanced diet for growth and recovery. Be consistent and patient, respect your limits and put form before load. Train with Massimo.
